  Roy Lichtenstein              Comic Art

Roy Lichtenstein...

Roy Lichtenstein was an American pop artist born in 1923 in New York City.  He is most famous for his large paintings inspired from pop culture such as advertisements and comic strips. During his time, his work was considered controversial, as they were large-scale reproductions with minimal transformations made. Lichtenstein's style mimicked printing techniques of the 20th century, utilizing Ben-day dots, various types of line, primary colors, and common imagery. Although critics were not positive about his works and challenged his originality, all of his paintings were sold at his first one-man show art gala.
"The closer my work is to the original,
the more threatening and critical the content.
However, my work is entirely transformed in that my
purpose and perception are entirely different.
I think my paintings are critically transformed,
but it would be difficult to prove it by any rational line of argument".
