POP ART!
POP ART! is an art movement beginning in the late 1950's. This art movement lasted for only 2 decades but has made an impact on the art world that will last a lifetime! POP ART! embraced mass production and was influenced by mass or popular culture.
It was a way for artists to blur the boundaries of traditional art and begin recognizing art forms that were considered "low" art or not art at all such as Comic Art, Commercial Design, Advertisements, Etc. Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Max are just some of the artists who helped shape POP ART! |

Tutorial: Your Mission:
|
For this project, you are going to use an image of something that could be considered POPULAR MASS CULTURE. This includes, portraits of famous people, popular and everyday objects such as sneakers, bottle of Pepsi, pets, etc..
This image will be our base for our contour line drawing done on acetate; a clear film. A background will be created using knowledge about the color wheel and various color relationships. Opposite colors, or complementary colors will be used on the reverse side of the acetate contour drawing. Once the acetate is dried and the art board background is painted and dried, the acetate will be placed and adhered on top, creating a POP ART! painting. |
