     Contemporary Art;
     Scarecrows

What is Contemporary Art?

                                              KAHOOT!

Contemporary Art is the art of today, produced by artists of the 20th and 21st century. Contemporary Art defies the easy definition of art and challenges the traditional art methods, techniques, and beliefs of what makes something a piece of art. The idea and/or reason to create an artwork takes precedence over the artifact and applies numerous materials, methods, and procedures. Earth works, performance art, digital art, and mixed-media are some of the numerous types
of art found during this period.
After learning about Contemporary Art and seeing different artworks, join KAHOOT to play the Contemporary Art game! Remember, participation counts! https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/34c06688-fa47-4c50-bb79-69e3c8fd92d2

YOUR MISSION:                                                             Reflection Questions:

You will be creating a Contemporary Scarecrow to represent today's world.
Before you get started, ask yourself the following questions.

- How do you want your composition to look:
~ Are you going to focus on one area of the scarecrow
        OR show the entire figure?
- How is your scarecrow going to represent today's world?
~ Clothing styles          ~ Brands            ~ Social Media
      ~ Technology                ~ Identity           ~ Politics/Picketing
       ~ Jewelry                      ~ Economic Status
- How does your scarecrow express your story?
________________________________________________________________________

- This project will be created in multiple steps
      1. Stylized observation drawing
      2. Oil Pastels
      3. Watercolor Paint
      4. Additional materials (optional)

                  **REMEMBER**
         Your artwork is your voice!
              Your voice matters!

In your Google Slide Portfolio, answer the following questions AFTER you've completed your Contemporary Scarecrow
  1. How did you make your Scarecrow Contemporary and why did you choose to do your project this way?
  2. What is your scarecrow expressing about today's world and why do you think this is important to address?
  3. Did you enjoy stylizing a traditional object? What did you like about this project and what did you not like about this project?

Side by side Sketch: To be completed in sketchbook

Picture
Draw out your observational scarecrow - this can be a tonal drawing like the one shown or completed in color. Fill the page appropriately (composition). If you have a lot of negative space behind your scarecrow, you'll have to create a design. If you have limited negative space, you will just need a color that makes your scarecrow POP!
Picture
Sketch in your stylized scarecrow. You need a minimum of 2 changes to your scarecrow that makes it contemporary - expresses today's world. Be creative! This is your voice!!!
Picture
Remember, one scarecrow will be a tonal drawing showing 4 stops (dark, medium gray, light gray, white) and the other scarecrow will be in color. Again, showing tones (lights, mediums, and darks).
